In which the pond offers a slice of Oreo without comment ...

It's a scientific fact, frequently observed and recorded in the pond, that the moment the Terror gets agitated about a warm day in Sydney - tradie app allowing - expert climate scientists will appear to explain that it's all a storm in a teacup, or perhaps a snowflake in hell ...

So it came about today, with Mr Timmie Bleagh once again turning up to explain the weather ... and how blessed are his readers, given his arduous training for the job.

Mr Bleagh embarked on his career in science by taking up a position as cadet journalist on the Truth - a newspaper now sadly lost to the world - and by working on Sports Illustrated, and sundry other prestigious publications, and perhaps most famously, appearing on RN, before devoting himself to blogging.

Whenever the weather bowls up a googly, Mr Bleagh knows how to deal with the spin.

It goes without saying that this assiduous preparation has made him one of the great climate scientists, up there with Moorice and the Bolter and his Lordship, and it also goes without saying that his elevated understanding of the matter is simply too deep for the pond.

And so we will pass on to another favourite reptile sport, black bashing, usually reserved for the Bolter, but thanks to the Oreo, the pond has to go there ...

How pleasing it is that the mantle of black-bashing has moved from Aboriginal youth to Melbourne imports, and how pleasing it is that the lizards of Oz are striving to maintain the rage, and use it for political advantage.

Despicable? Not for your average reptile ...

Yes, it's race-baiting week at the lizard Oz, and who better to do the job than the Oreo?

The pond isn't about to descend in to the race wars, but has to acknowledge the work of its favourite Monday columnist ...

After all, bigotry and racism and hysteria and fear and loathing plays an important role in the lizard Oz agenda ... and the Oreo is not one to shirk from any onerous task ...

That "they're back so - whatever" makes it clear enough what gutter the pond has landed in.

But wait judge, the fear and loathing has only just begun, and in particular it takes the splendid form of an exemplary Lobbecke cartoon ...

Yes, we've been there before ...

Put it another way ...

In the case of the Daily Mail, we've literally been there before ... when Mac produced a cartoon showing scuttling mice, and people dug up a cartoon in a Viennese newspaper, "Das Kleine Blatt", from 1939 ...

And now have another Oreo ...

... which should put anyone in the mood for a final gobbet about PC elites and all the usual rhetoric ...

The pond feels quite pleased, if there's any pleasure to be gained from demonising a minority and tarring entire populations with the broad brush of bigotry, prejudice and Oreo notions of failure.

The pond acknowledges its ongoing debt to the Oreo, but it avoids stepping into the gutter with the lizards of Oz, and at the same time, it's taken a seemly detour into cartoon history thanks to the efforts of Lobbecke ...

And so it becomes another hot day in Sydney, with much Bleagh in the air, and the reptiles busy spreading unhappiness, fear and loathing ...

Soon enough public transport will become unendurable and twitter will stay a wasteland, though you won't find the lizards of Oz calling out the worst of the worst ...

  1. Nearly walked into a brawl in a suburban shopping centre over the weekend. Can you imagine my relief when I realised it was just anglo teenagers involved? No need to obsess or loose any sleep, it was just kids behaving badly.

My suspicion is that problems, as far as they exist, in migrant communities are largely caused by alienation due to lack of support & outright bigotry. Murdoch's bestiary of RWFWs are in their element here - the worse they make the situation the more they can moan about it.

    1. Rather primitive and simplistic in their understanding of causality and consequence, those RWFWs, Bef. Especially the Oreo.

I did see on the tv something along the lines of "Somali/Sudanese youths are less than 1% of the young population but are responsible for 7.8% of violent crime" (or something like that). So yes, I got the disproportionality message, but I also had a question: who is responsible for the other 92.2% and why do we hear nothing about them ? Who can they possibly be ? They can't all be Vietnamese (are the Viets still in this game ?) or Lebanese or Pacific Islander or Muslim, so who ?

  2. Hi Dorothy,

"With unprecedented debt, stagnating wages, high taxes and soaring basic living costs"

Whoops, the Oreo was doing so well with her rabble rousing rant against the golliwogs and then she went and ruined it by revealing the whole reason for this conflated black-bashing.

The Liberals and their propaganda unit, the Murdoch press, are desperate to talk about anything else other than their embrace of toxic laissez-faire capitalism where multinationals pay little or no tax and a tiny percentage are making out like bandits.

Meanwhile, for the rest, they are left to shoulder the burden of funding government and infrastructure whilst their jobs and working conditions are becoming ever more insecure.

Still never mind let's blame the pesky Africans.
