In which the pond offers up a Major Mitchell for dusk-loving owls ...

The latest reptile gambit has been to drag chairman Rudd out of the closet, or perhaps up from the political grave, and blame him for everything ...

The bouffant one was hard at it, and never no mind that the current mob has been in power in one form or another since the 18th September 2013 ...

Indeed, indeed, but as sure as hell, they had a hand in the onion muncher's farcical bunch of energy policies, down there with knighthoods for dukes ... with Josh finding it particularly hard to give up his love of onions ...

But as the subject has been raised yet again, there's just time to slip in the Major Mitchell, parroting the standard climate denialist reptile line ...

For a moment the pond thought it might have to lose the Major, what with Moorice and the Plimersplaining that went on this day in the lizard Oz. Why refer to a galah when you have two giants at the top of their climate denialist game?

The Major's splash tried to make him sound almost rational, but turn to the google splash for the piece, and we're back with the goats and the volcanoes and talk of carbon doomsayers ...

And then the pond knew a spot had to be found for the Major. You can't spout "doomsayer" like a volcano spouting hot larva and be ignored ...

You can take the climate science denialism out of the parrot, but the parrot will find it ever so hard to let the climate science denialism go ...

Now at the heart of all this is the mind of a parrot, or perhaps an Order of Lenin hunter of the first water.

The resemblances are unnerving ...as this blog has pointed out almost as many times as the reptiles have indulged in climate science denialism in the past 15 years.

There's no need for computer modelling, just a few photographic comparisons ...

But all of that first gobbet was just be way of a preamble.

The real climate science denialism got underway in the second gobbet in dot point form ... as if the Major fancied that he was in a Powerpoint session briefing the Donald ...

That's as fine a collation of spurious, irrelevant, misleading or dumbed down claims as might be called on to grace an onion muncher speech ....

The pond particularly likes that talk of the media being full of half truths about climate change, followed by an immediate half truth, that opening dot point ... that CO2 is the food of all plants ...

Now the pond could go on about definitions of food and what photosynthesis really means, but the "CO2 is food" routine, beloved of all climate science denialists, got a very nice and lengthy doing over at a Yale climate science site here, including this bit of comedy ...

Shit and piss? They call it journalism. The pond calls it Major Mitchell thinking ...

That comedy routine concluded this way ...

There's others who've talked about the CO2 as plant food routine, but the pond hasn't got the time or the patience...

You see, the Major Mitchell rambles through any other number of standard climate science denialist ploys, including coal, China and coal, uranium, and cold being a killer, all half-baked and half-arsed in the onion muncher way, and all with the notion at the back of it that the Major has an interest in good policy, when really he's down there with the onion muncher blathering on about cold, as if that's got something to do with anything ...

Surely, cold kills, but there are subtleties and nuances to the numbers, and in any case, our desire to avoid the cold can produce soaring power bills - as the pond can testify - and a deep love of coal-fired power ...

It's the sort of dissembling distraction a Craig Kelly, an onion muncher or a Major Mitchell trots out as if it's some sort of gotcha argument ...

The problem with the Major is that he wants to pretend he likes it both ways.

It'd be better for him if he could just admit that deep down, like the onion muncher, like the lizards of Oz, he really thinks that climate science is crap ... and that way he could go the full Moorice, instead of dissembling and sounding like a parrot or a bear with not very much brain ...

And here the pond must put an end to proceedings, because if it kept on there wouldn't be room for the latest Rowe, and unlike a Major Mitchell column, that would be a major loss, with more precious Rowe here ...
